3 teens arrested after armed carjacking near south Laredo park

Three teens landed behind bars for allegedly carjacking two people at gunpoint and then leading Laredo police officers on a vehicle pursuit.

An armed robbery was reported at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the 400 block of North Stone Avenue. Three assailants had carjacked two people. One suspect was armed with a handgun, according to police.

Police spotted the stolen vehicle in the 500 block of East Lyon Street. The driver refused to stop for officers and eventually crashed into an officer's car, authorities said.

Police said three occupants led officers on a brief foot pursuit. Officers were able to detain the three assailants. A .45-caliber semiautomatic handgun was found inside the stolen car, according to police.

One suspect was identified as Hector Ortega Fernandez, 18. The other two were a 13-year-old and a 14-year-old. All were charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of engaging in organized criminal activity.
